Fiat names new North American chief
Fiat names new North American chief Alisa Priddle/ The Detroit NewsThe Fiat brand, which is off to a slow start since its reintroduction to the U.S. market, has replaced its North American chief.
Effective Monday, Laura Soave has left Chrysler Group LLC. She is replaced by Timothy Kuniskis, a 19-year veteran who oversaw product marketing for the Fiat and Chrysler brands.
Soave was still in the top Fiat position for North America last week at the Los Angeles auto show, but there had been growing speculation she would lose her job.
Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne hinted that her days were numbered at a press event last week, saying she held the post "for the time being."
Officially, Soave has left to "pursue other interests."
The change in leadership comes on the heels of failed efforts to get Fiat dealerships up and running in the United States in a timely manner. Sales are far below projections.
Fiat has returned to the U.S. market after 28 years. The first special-edition versions of the Fiat 500 were shipped to customers in February, but only 20 dealerships were in operation across the country to handle the transactions.
